But whatever the case may be, learning about the inner workings of Feng Shui and how it impacts everyday life is indeed very fascinating.
And, while Feng Shui may be somewhat of an abstract concept, its implications in life are not confusing at all! This is because Feng Shui is rooted in principles rather than concrete rules. As opposed to concrete rules, these principles are highly flexible and they allow for the development of creative solutions.

Many people get tempted into treating their bedrooms like a storage unit. Some others choose to bring in their work life into their bedrooms. In both these cases, the bedroom inevitably ends up gathering a lot of unwanted items.
Feng Shui principles advise you to remove excessive clutter from bedrooms. In fact, St. Lawrence University has suggested that excessive bedroom clutter can cause sleep disturbances, which in turn may lead to irritability and depression.
I highly recommend you to get rid of all clutter from your bedroom. This includes removing electronics such as cell phones, TVs and computers among other forms of clutter. Decluttering will be a time and energy consuming process, but you should think of it as therapy. At the end of it, you’ll lighten up your load and create harmonious Feng Shui energy. Trust me – it’ll dramatically improve your sleep quality.
Allow light and air into your bedroom every day
Feng Shui experts will always tell you to allow light and air into your bedroom every day. Natural air and light are essential for promoting the flow of Chi (positive Feng Shui energy) in your bedroom. When you go to sleep, you should close your blinds and windows to retain this positive energy within your bedroom.
If your bedroom is overly stuffy, then you should consider using an air purifier or introduce air purifying plants. Also, make use of full spectrum lights in your bedroom so as to make it more natural.
Use neutral colors in your bedroom
I’ve noticed that many people choose bright or distinct colors for their bedroom walls. However, every Feng Shui expert will tell you that this isn’t such a good idea. Bright colors can overstimulate the energy within the room while you’re sleeping – leading to sleep problems.
You should always choose neutral colors such as cream, beige, earth or cool blue for painting your bedroom walls. In case you want to accent or highlight these colors, choose white, red or pink shades. Remember – accents should be used sparingly and your bedroom walls must define the overall color of your bedroom.
One easy and effective way of adding accents is through artwork, bedsheets, organic candles or even small crystals. Not only will this allow you to create a visually appealing space, but you will also benefit from good Feng Shui.
Create a sense of symmetry
One of the biggest Feng Shui principles you should follow in your bedroom is creating symmetry. You should leave equal room on both sides of the bed and create balance in your bedroom. This is a symbol for creating equal space for you as well as your partner. Also, if not for Feng Shui, symmetry will also make your bedroom look better and more organized.
It may not always be possible to leave a lot of space between walls and your bed. But, even if you can spare a couple of inches, it’s better than leaving no space at all.

There are several other Feng Shui principles you should follow in your bedroom. These include limiting the number of mirrors, grounding the space using rugs, avoiding under-bed storage and making your bed every day.
Too many mirrors in a bedroom can cause an imbalance of positive energy. As such, you should be mindful of using too many mirrors in your bedroom. Also, never place a mirror across your bed that allows you to see your reflection while you’re in it.
Adding a rug on your bedroom floor is an excellent way of grounding the space. This helps keep a balance between soft and hard textures (yin and yang). Moreover, by avoiding under-bed storage, you can stimulate even flow of energy in a grounded space.
Finally, making your bed every single day may seem insignificant, but it leaves a huge impact on your conscious and subconscious. This simple task is a symbol of accomplishment and it creates a sense of being organized. This can also help reduce stress and increase your motivation.
